Finding freedom, purpose & a place to belong — on my own terms

CAROLINE GRUBB
Traveller, Photographer, Digital Entrepreneur, lover of chocolate ice cream
I’m a curious soul, always asking: Is there more than this?
After walking away from the 9–5, I became a cruise ship photographer, explored the world, and found myself asking deeper questions about freedom, identity, and what really matters.
When I returned to land, I dived headfirst into personal growth, entrepreneurship, and digital nomad adventures — kickstarting an ever-evolving journey that still lights me up today.
This site is where I share what I’m learning and loving, in case it sparks something for you too.

WHAT I STAND FOR
Truth over perfection
Freedom over fitting in
Growth over comfort
Connection over performance
Presence over pressure
MY STORY

THE SEARCH
After getting my degree, I spent 13 years working as an IT consultant for medium and large corporates. On paper, it looked like success: regular travel across the UK, Europe and Asia, a good salary, and a career people respected.
Friends often said it sounded glamorous. But the reality? I spent my days in beige offices and my evenings in airport lounges, business hotels, and endless traffic jams.
It wasn’t the kind of “travelling the world” I’d dreamed of — and slowly, I began to realise I felt completely disconnected from my own life.
Something wasn’t right… but I didn’t know what else I was meant to do.
The best thing that ever happened to me was losing my job
THE SHAKE-UP
The shake-up came in the form of a redundancy.
One minute I was ticking all the right boxes in my career… the next, it was gone.
It rattled me more than I expected — not just financially, but emotionally. Without the job, I realised I didn’t really know who I was anymore.
It forced me to pause. To ask: What now?
And more importantly: What do I actually want?
That was the beginning of everything starting to shift.

Once the shock wore off, I felt liberated!

THE ESCAPE
With nothing to tie me down and everything up in the air, I did something totally unexpected:
I ran away to sea.
I landed a job as a cruise ship photographer — swapping office blocks for ocean views, and boardrooms for beaches. It was part adventure, part survival… and exactly what I needed.
Life became fast, fun, and full of stories. I travelled the world, met people from every corner of it, and remembered what it felt like to be curious, creative — alive.
But while it looked like escape on the outside, it was really the start of something deeper: a search for freedom, meaning, and a life that felt like mine again.
Then another devastating shock hit
THE RETURN
Grief, growth, and the slow journey home to myself.
After years at sea, something shifted. I was craving stillness, meaning — home.
Then my best friend Anya died suddenly, and everything changed. Grief cracked me open. I realised I didn’t want to miss another moment that mattered.
So I came back to land with no plan, just a suitcase and a feeling that I couldn’t keep living the same old script.
That was the start of the real work: slowing down, tuning in, and finding my way back to who I really am.

I began seeking truth, freedom and belonging

THE EXPLORATION
Exploring what freedom, truth, and belonging look like — and sharing the ride.
Since then, I’ve been on a journey of rediscovery — asking bigger questions, trying new things, and building a life with more freedom, purpose, and heart.
I’ve explored personal growth, digital entrepreneurship, and what it really means to belong — to myself, and to a life that fits.
It’s still evolving. I’m still learning. But I’m finally on the path that feels like mine.
